The BMW has successfully tested a car which burns hydrogen instead of petrol, and although this was a prototype car not for genersl sale it is based on technology from other hydrogen cars. The car engine is very similar to that of a normal petrol engine in that the gas is injected into the cylinders. However there are many differences between hydrogen and petrol, different molecular size, different flash point and different burning speed. An important advantage of hydrogen is that it burns much faster than petrol or diesel, which means that unlike petrol it does not need to be ignited until the piston reaches top dead centre.Hydrogen also benefits us by not emitting Carbon Dioxide as it does not contain Carbon. This is one of the main attractions of using it as fuel, it will help to reduce global warming, assuming that Hydrogen can be produced cleanly. And the hydrogen is the gas which can easily be produced by different methods.
